UK consumers will soon be able to use their DNA as a form of payment when paying for their items or service, which involves licking the card terminal.
Known as DNA-Pay, this new method requires all users to have a DNA sample taken by their bank in order to use the biometric technology.
From 2020, DNA-Pay has said to be “the most secure method yet”, making chip and pin and contactless payments unnecessary. Customers can verify payments by placing their tongue on a hygienic screen, which links to their bank account.
As well as perhaps being simpler than keying in a Pin, such technology could potentially help people who have difficulty remembering number codes, so it may be useful to vulnerable customers.
Developed by digital security company Jenco, DNA-Pay will be available in the UK on all card terminals as standard in the next year, then rolled out to other major European countries once the trial process has found to be successful.
Michelle Walker, Jenco director, said “We are using the very latest technology across our business to make banking easier for customers and DNA-Pay is one of the many technologies we are exploring further.
“This is the biggest development in card technology in recent years and we are excited to trial the service.”
Consumers can pay quickly and easily with just a simple lick, and they no longer need to worry about the limit on contactless payment transactions.
